While great strides have been made in many parts of the world in ensuring that more youth have access to education, the stark fact remains that an estimated 125 million young people worldwide are not in school. The loss of such a basic right is incalculable to those young people who are denied the opportunity to lead independent and productive lives and to their communities and nations as they fall even farther behind in the critical areas of economic and human development.
Lack of educational and extracurricular opportunities denies the orphans the opportunity to develop leadership skills which they can use to guide their communities into the future. By being trained in non-formal education and formal education, helps the orphans youth can become peer educators who can spread awareness of salient social issues.
Nothing liberates and empowers orphans quite like education because its gives them the power to make a difference in their lives.
Educated and trained orphans will in turn pass the knowledge and skill to their peers in the community.
Orphans who are educated are less likely to get HIV/AIDS and in Africa which has such high pandemic levels, we need to begin changing the trend.
Education is development and a human right. It creates choices and opportunities for people, reduces the burdens of poverty and diseases and gives a stronger voice in society. For nations, it creates a dynamic workforce and well informed citizens able to compete globally, opening doors to economic and social prosperity".
YESproject provides the orphans with the urgently needed support services in form of education to make a positive impact in their lives.
SayYES to orphans is a campaign to create awareness for the orphans and to raise their educational funds.
YES Orphans Support Project Approach
YES Orphans Support project aims to link the orphan scouts in Africa with friends in a support friendship relationship.
The project works through the orphan youth, national scout associations and the Government (Social Service Department and the Ministry of Youth Affairs)
This outreach commitment, the first of its kind in the history of adult scout leaders, mobilizes support friends to be actively involved inYES Orphans Support project in Africa.
Youth Leaders are deployed to recruit orphans in communities who are listed as members of Orphans Group. The orphans are further recruited and supported to join one of the community based YES Patrols. Divisional-wide Patrols are registered as YES Orphans Group through the Government (Social Service Department) and as YESScout Group though the National Scouts Association.
YES Orphans are prepared and introduced to the existing YESScouts and absorbed in YES Scouts Patrols where they are further trained and invested as Scouts of the World (SW). YESScouts Patrols are registered together as YESScout Groups under the existing National Scouts Association.
