Dr. Kang’ethe Wamaitha Gitu was born on 13th. Nov. 1949 in Kangemi, Nairobi, Kenya. He is currently residing at his family home in Dagoretti Division.
He received his primary education in Nairobi and his high school and university education at Davis and the Pennsylvanian State University in the United States of America (USA).
Dr. Kang’ethe is a holder of BA degree in Economics and MSc. in Agricultural Economics and a PhD in Agricultural Economics.
Dr. Kang’ethe is a renown Policy Analyst who has served the Government of Kenya as an Advisor of Agricultural Economics under the Harvard Institute for International Development, Senior Advisor under the Canadian Agency for International Development, Director of Planning in the Office of the Vice-President and Ministry of Planning and National Development and was the former Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Planning and Labour and Human Resources.
Dr. Kang’ethe has authored key policy documents for the Republic of Kenya. He is the Founder Member of the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA).
Dr Gitu is also widely known among the donor community, where he has worked or rendered consultancy services to such organizations as CIDA, UN, World Bank, OXFAM, FAO, among others.
Dr. Kang’ethe has written extensively and provocatively on issues relating to poverty, gender as well as the implications of HIV/AIDS on Kenya’s socio-economic scene.
On retirement, Dr. Kang’ethe ventured into formal school education and in pursuit of his desire, he on 2003 started Gitu Academy Limited where he is the Director.
On 25th. April 2006, Dr. Kang’ethe donated a piece of land to the orphans children and youth to be managed under YES International. The land is jointly registered under YES International and Gitu Academy Limited as Trustees. YES Centre is currently being developed at the land site as a base for supporting the orphans children and youth in Kenya to access education and training.
On 30th. July 2006, Dr. Kang’ethe was invested as an Adult Scout of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and was subsequently honoured as the 1st. YES International (Kenya) Chairman.
Dr. Kang’ethe hobbies include writting and reading poetry. He is also a connoisseur of good football and athletics.
On 27th. August 2006, Dr. Kang'ethe donated a collection of his poetry work "A Tribute of Hope" to YES International to cause to be printed and offered for sale as a way of raising self-support income.
