YES Berkshire School, is a project supported byYES as a day school to provide secondary school education to the orphans youth in Kenya.

YES Berkshire School aims to provide the orphans youth access to an enjoyable and attractive scheme of education and training aimed at encouraging their physical, mental, social and spiritual development.

YES Berkshire School opened it’s doors on 13th. February 2006 to the first two orphans students (George Otieno and Kevin Muchene) under Teachers John Muigai and Irene Atieno.

YES Berkshire School was symbolically officially launched on Sat. 25th. Feb. 2006 during a study trip in Kenya by the Polaris Scout Network from UK.  The launch was held at the YESCentre in Dagoretti Division Nairobi Kenya by Mr. James Harris and Mr. Damian Walsh members of the Polaris Scout Network UK.

The launch was presided over by Chief George M. Mukuria of Riruta Location in Nairobi Province, Scouter Joseph Njoroge, Teachers, YES Orphan Scouts,YES Berkshire School Students,YESOrphans in other Community Schools and Scouter Paul Kabao Founding Director YES Project.

One of the desires of theYES has been to have all the YES Orphan Students by then learning at various community schools brought together to study under one roof.

This became possible when on Tuesday 25th. April 2006 Dr. Kang'ethe Wamaitha Gitu impressed by the work of YES (Youth Education Support), offered to donate a plot of land measuring 120 x 90 square feet on which to develop the proposed YES Centre.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding between YESInternational and Gitu Academy Limited, it was agreed to cooperate in supporting YES Orphans to get their education at YES Berkshire School to be based at Gitu Academy Limited.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding Dr. Kang'ethe Wamaitha agreed to give 40% subsidy on YES Orphans fees underYES Berkshire School at Gitu Academy Limited.

As a result of this understanding, the by then five YES Berkshire School students together with other YES Orphan Students in various community secondary schools in the division were gathered together and placed at YES Berkshire School at Gitu Academy Limited.

However, the YES Orphans are required to wear the Gitu Academy Limited school uniform and so the cost of the school uniform and the remainder of the school fees will still need to be sourced and paid under YES.

YES Berkshire School at Gitu Academy is located along Ngina Road, off Naivasha Road.  Education is conducted at a conducive environment where the school has a small population spread in various classes where qualified teachers are able to provide personal attention to each student.

The school prepares students through the approved Kenya secondary schools education programme that leads them sit for the final Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination conducted by the Kenya National Examination Council, which is the national body responsible for overseeing national examination in Kenya.
